William (Bill) Willard was born on a farm not far from Elora Ontario. He attended schools in Salem, Elora, Guelph and Fergus. In the late 60’s, he moved to Guelph where he began in the retail and the hospitality Industries. In the early 70’s, William moved to Toronto as an apprentice chef and attended George Brown College’s Chef Program. He spent the next few years in the hospitality and retail management and promotional sales.
In 1976, William started helping Ontario families with important financial decisions when he became a licensed Life insurance agent for Transamerica Occidental Life’s Toronto Office. Over the next 6 years he rose to become assistant Branch Manager at the age of 27 and was branch leader in new business . Occidental were the first to actively promote term insurance as opposed to whole life or savings type insurance. In doing so, he helped his clients put themselves in a position to triple their retirement nest eggs simply by putting their money into GICs at the bank. They invented “buy term and invest the difference”.
One of his clients in the trade show exhibit business convinced him to combine his sales experience with his early education in the communications industry. At BCC Group, he sold and coordinated the design, construction and installations of modular and custom trade-show exhibit programs across Canada for major national and multi-national corporate and government clients.
In the mid 80’s William began a 16 year career in the motion picture, television documentary and corporate video production business; over 10 of which he was the Principal and Executive Producer of his own independent production companies. His clients included TD Bank, Honda Canada, General Motors, Crown Life, Fidelity Mutual Funds, and several government agencies.
In 1999, he founded Integrated Media Solutions, a corporate communications and eLearning consultancy that produced web-based e-learning programs and webcasts on such topics as Privacy Law, Securities Law, ITLAW, Health and Safety Law and Canadian Corporate Tax Law under extended contracts with Ernst and Young and the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants. He also built a major eLearning course in Information Technology law for the School of Accountancy at the University of Waterloo and the CICA. IMS also consulted to VFM Interactive to market hotels across North America using streaming video and Virtual surround tours.
In 2006, William returned to his roots and moved back to his childhood home of Elora in search of a simpler life and to help his aging parents. Early that year, he created a website for a new subdivision in Thornbury called Trailwoods – for a close friend of almost 30 years.
The process ignited a fascination with investing in real estate in William and he decided to get his real estate license and start working primarily in the real estate industry in the Elora, Guelph and Kitchener Waterloo area.
